painting

the owls are the first things I noticed. Then I noticed her shadow. Then I noticed the cross on the ground made out of the lighting. Then I noticed the train. Of course I noticed the moon and the record player but I do not think either of those things held much importance. All of the owls are flying in the same direction except one. I wonder why he does this.

Where the owls

Why maybe the painter wants us to feel free like the owls? Or maybe the painter wants us ti realize what the girl is going through and what she wants to escape from. Does she wants to be free like the owls? does she wants to run away from the group like the one owl that is opposite from the rest?

I then realize the girl is carrying a mask. Societally standers force all of u to wear our masks and fake who we are to get through daily life. Some times we want to just escape those makes and fly away like the owl. It is very clear that the girl does not want to be who she is. She is wearing a mask her shadow is not that of a human.

The painter was able to draw my attention directly to the owls because they are right in the middle of the painting with their wings wide spread. Why is there no shadow for the owls yet there is shadows for everything else.

Afterward

When Morrison says that she realized beauty was something to one could do i think she meant that Who you are and how you carry yourself is what makes you beautiful. To love everything that is different about yourself from other. There is such a stigma in today’s society that encourages girls to look a specific way. If you hair is not straight and shiny you cannot be pretty. If your eyes are not blue and your hair is not blond then you cannot be beautiful. These are very really stereotypes that effect all people in a major way. If I told you “This girl is the nicest person i’ve ever met. I told you I had been working none stop to save up for rent in the upcoming month however I lost my most recent check from work and I wont be able to make ends me. She offered to pay my rent and ask nothing in return!” And then I asked you, “Do you think she is beautiful?”

We force people to change themselves and to be just like everyone else. But if everyone is the same is the term beautiful even relevant any more? What makes someone beautiful is their soul. How they love and accept those around them. The ability to listen, understand, and empathize with someone. Anyone can dye their hair and get colored contacts to look and feel a specific way. However not everyone can have a good heart that encourages other and does good for their community without taking for anything in return.

After reading Toni Morrison’s book “The Bluest Eye”, when someone asks me “Do you think that person is beautiful?” Instead of checking to see what they look like I will ask “What have they done that is beautiful?” When I am talking about someone I love and adore, I never find myself talking about their looks, I find myself telling you stories about things they have done, stories about how they have been here for me and stories about how funny they are. Beauty is not something you can behold it is something you do.

CHOLLY

Cholly starts with clear abandonment issues. His mother leaving him on the trash when he was only four days old. Who would not be effect by that. Although he does not remember that day just knowing that it happened much play a major roll with his mind. I think this also effect Cholly’s emotions towards all women in general. He is physically and mentally abusive towards Mrs. Breedlove. Cholly and his wife get physical very often and most of the time the children are around. Seeing there parents speak to each other so harshly and filled with hatred take a major told on the children as well. The way the town speaks of the Breedloves almost makes the Breedloves believe the things they hear. On page 190 where the girls over hear someone talking “Ought to be a law: tow ugly people doubling up like that to make more ugly.” By speaking this way about others you are almost encouraging them to feel this way about theirslevse. The Breedloves have never been self accepting and people talking this way about them encourages them to continues to hate themselves. Because Cholly was left to die when he was a new boy he thinks that if his own mother cannot even accept him then how can he love himself. Because he carries so much hatred and anger around he has become almost non human. He does not care if he tares his wife down or if he beats her into the ground. He does not love or care for his children the way a father could. This could all be because he never forgave his mother for abandoning him. Or because he never learned to truly love himself.

TBE 97-131

One of the most significant symbols from this section would have to be the house. The house rings a major symbol through out the entire novel. Being green and white. What could these colors represent to the central character? The green could mean wealth. As a Black family living in America being able to own a home and property means are are better off then those who do not own land and a house. Or it could represent jealousy to Frieda? Frieda hates the white girls and wishes she could inflict pain on. She is jealous that people love them more than her and she does not understand why. The white color of the house could represent Frieda’s innocences that Henry has stripped from her. The Cobbler was another very important symbol in the section. Way her mother helped the white daughter of her own makes her daughter feel like her own mother even loves the white people more then her. The adds to my jealousy argument and the green color of the house. Her mother is giving white people the power when she should be fighting against the white people. Mrs. Breedlove kids crave her attention and affection yet she abuses them when they need her love and comfort the most.

Black Mirror

The main character approach’s the black museum even though it is mysterious and most people would probably have just left it alone. Maybe the name of the museum called to her. A white man welcomes her in and threatens that she cannot handle what he is about to present to her. Is this because she is female? Because she is black? Does he think these traits make her weak? Or is what she about to see actually scary? He sounds excited about how creepy all of the artifacts are. The new man that the girls mother brings in, in “The Bluest Eye” was very creepy as well. The way he hugged them and held them close to his private areas. The scientist developed a device that would let you feel anything someone else feels but you do not have to face the physical consciences. A doctor placed this device in his head and had a near death experience and began to crave pain. He got pleasure from others suffering. Once the Doctor way removed from society and was forced to be alone, he began harming himself. Still farming himself does not satisfy him. He is missing the fear factor, as they say in the show “Fear goes with pain like red wine goes with a fat juicy steak.” So the doctor went crazy and attack an innocent man until he forced his mind to shut down and he is still in a coma to this day. Doing the monkey needs a hug story we hear the news about the man that killed the weather girl. Yet here he is in the black museum. However, he is not human he is a fully conscience upload. He has feeling and emotions yet he seems trapped. He mentally survived his own death. That obviously has to have a negative effect on anyone. The host seems to be getting sicker and sicker through out the whole tour. Almost as if he is killing himself while he is enjoying others past struggle. The owner begins to lose his clients and allows people to pay to shock the upload of the man for much longer then they should. Creating a negative impact on the uploading. The upload’s daughter is the women that has been touring the museum. She puts the owner of the museum in his place, she poisoned him with the water she offered him. She refuses to let this power hungry white man come in and manipulate her father. She puts the museum owner into her fathers body and shocks him to free her own father. He is stuck in there always suffering. She has her mom in her mind who is probably what helped her formulate the idea of giving the museum owner what he deserved. Also I like how they used an electric car in the show to promote a healthier environment. This is an obvious example of our messed up criminal system. There was no evidence incriminating this man but because he is black he is sucked into our criminal system.

Poem response

I think the most important symbol in this poem would be the poem itself. It seems like the writer never really finishes his thoughts or his stanzas. It says he has been writing this poem since he was a young boy and he was learning this simple things in life. Maybe be this the writer means that everything he has been through in life has gotten him to the point he is at now. The experiences that he writer has experiences though out his life has made him who he is today which has resulted in the poem being what it is today. When the author makes the comment about his grandmother calling him the f word you can tell he is never really accepted. The last stanza is very interesting. The writer went from talking about being with a female, his grandmother cursing him, to being with a man. I cannot really tell what the writers goal was when he decided to make this poem so “unfinished” the poem tells us very vague experiences though out the writers life but it does not tell us how it changed or impacted the writer. The only major impact we see is the writer ending up with Michael. We do not see how the crow has changed his life or how watching his father shave changes his life but we do see how is grandmother not accepting him results in his forgiving however he still ends up with Michael. The writer wants us to think that he has been writing this poem his whole life but what I really think he means is, everything he has been though has resulted in what you read in this poem. If that crow did not die if his mother did not nurture his splinter would he be the same writer he is today? This is why the poem is the symbol in itself. “I have been writing this since the sparrow flew into my class”

Lahiri Post

The protagonist in this text would be Shukumar. He has invited us to see his relationship wasting away through his own eyes. He explains how sad and unhealthy his relationship has become. He takes you through his experiences and questions why he let things get they way that they had.

Shukumar seems to want his relationship with Shoba to work out but knows it not going to. Once the power starts gong out nightly you see Shukumar starting to become excited again for his relationship with Shoba he looks forward to spending that our with her nightly. He trust that this can help his relationship grown.

Because Shoba is not that protagonist we do not get to see how she truly feels throughout this text. We just see her from Shukumar’s perspective. We are not sure if she also feels excited the way that Shukumar does about the hour they will spend together. I cant think of anything i cant think of anything………………………………………………….

Shukumars Desires seem to be that he wants his relationship to work, his fears is that he does not know how to make it work. I would say is conflict is person vs. person and also person vs. self. Shukumar never seems to open up and share his feelings about his child. He never seeks comfort in Shoba. However Shoba completely blind sided him when she got her own apartment.

Run, Mourner, Run

In the story Run, Mourner, Run. Dean struggles with the conflict Person vs. person and also Person vs. self. Dean gets himself in a position with Mr. Percy. Mr. Percy told Dean that if he wold sleep with Ray Brown that he would give Dean a raise of $6,000 and also a promotion. This is where the conflict of person vs. self arises. Instead of Dean realizing that he does not deserve being taking advantage of and he also does not want to lower himself by being paid for having sex with men. Dean needs to realize that no amount of money is worth selling himself for. However Dean knows him and his mother need this money. This amount of money could truly change Dean and his mothers life.

Also Dean thinks because Mr. Brown has no meaning to him that he will be able to easily take advantage of him and move on with his life. Dean does, however, find himself growing feeling towards Mr. Brown after realizing that he is a good man with a valuable life.
